The festivities are well and truly over. January is a difficult month -it’s hard to conjure up any sense of magic in the frozen mornings and rainy afternoons when there’s no fairy lights and tinsel to accompany the abysmal weather. It’s a terrible month, and it’s not hard to see why they call our reaction to it the ‘January blues’.

But let’s not let our pessimism run away with us. It’s not all bad. Here are my personal highlights of the month and the things that have kept me excited.

Sonny Angel Valentines Range 2017 RRP £7.90 from Didi Inspired!

Okay so it’s not Valentines day until February 14th but in the world of retail it’s already here and what better excuse to treat yourself to something cute? Dreams produce a Sonny Angel collection for every occasion (think Easter, Christmas etc) and this years Valentines range is so cute I could die. Themed around the cuddly toys that are gifted around this time of year, this range features a bunny, kitty, bear and puppy plush as well as two adorable colour variations and the elusive Robby! These are sold in a blind box which means you’ll never know which one you’re going to get. This would make a sweet gift for a loved one but personally, I bought them for myself. (What can I say, I’m worth it.)

Lush Valentines Range Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar RRP £4.25 from Lush Cosmetics.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you’ll know I love Lush! (And the feeling is mutual, I can assure you.) The Valentines collection really impressed me this year, so much so that I made a little vlog detailing my favourite purchases. The unicorn horn bubble bar is this years winner for me. With its pastel colouring, sweet smell and the mounds of soft bubbles it creates it’s hard not to fall head over heels. If you’re going to make one purchase this month let it be the unicorn horn!

How I lost You book by Jenny Blackhurst RRP £7.89 from Amazon.

Probably one of the best books I have read in recent years, How I Lost You by Jenny Blackhurst picks up the story of a young mother diagnosed with puerperal psychosis who has killed her baby, served her time and struggles to come to terms with it all outside in the real world. Filled with surprising twists and turns, at times this book is really claustrophobic. This was a real page turner that had me anxious to get to the end and the bottom of it all. A brilliant read for those dark January evenings.

Pastel perfect jumpers RRP £6 from Primark

Although we are still in the depths of winter, in the fashion world they’re looking ahead. Scour the shop floors and you will find that the ever-popular pastel colours of spring are starting to pop up everywhere. Primark is currently selling a range of lightweight knits in the most perfect powder blue and baby pink hues. I snatched these up for £6 each-a sure fire way to brighten my wardrobe and those dreary days.

The Penultimate Lucky Dip Club Box

The last ever Lucky Dip Club box (in its current monthly format) dropped early this month and although I’m super sad to see it go I really did enjoy the contents. With lots of fun stickers, the perfect pin and necklace and lots of monthly milestone cards to plan the months ahead (and let it be said that my successes are built on lists) it’s a cracker of a box. The LDC box may return in a quarterly format (although at this stage we aren’t sure) so this last box was a pretty big deal.  The perfect thing to plan out the month and look ahead to the future.
