It’s been a little while since I wrote a personal blog post and today I thought I would just check in with where I’m at. I like to reflect on what I’m doing every now and then as it’s good to look back and see how far I’ve come and acknowledge what I have achieved. I don’t think I do it often enough!

Writing Projects

I have been writing more lately. Both on the blog and freelance projects. If you didn’t catch my recent piece about the inspiration behind my Etsy shop for NFReads, you can catch that here. One project I was super excited to be a part of was issue 14 of the wonderful Girl Planet magazine. This magazine accompanied the re-launch of Lucky Dip Club in its’ new format, My Rainbow Life. I wrote a very personal piece about what self-care means to me for this magazine. It felt like a brave step to take but I’m proud of myself for doing it and hope that my writing can inspire others in a similar position.

Blogging and Events

I have been putting a lot of effort in to this blog, posting more frequently and spending more time on my posts. If I don’t have any ideas that I’m happy with I will skip a day or a week as for me it’s all about quality not quantity. I can only assume that it’s for these reasons that my blog has started to gain some recognition as I have now been invited to a few bloggers events (yay for Lush!) and wrote my first sponsored post. These may be small steps in the grand scheme of things but it’s a really rewarding feeling for me personally to know that others want to work with me. I’m not going to lie though and say everything is smooth sailing. Sometimes I am so distracted by what every one else is doing it’s hard to focus on myself. I do get blog-envy. I do get days when I think “why am I doing this, it’s pointless, no one cares” and that has been tough. It’s difficult when you realise that certain friends aren’t reading the posts you’ve spent hours creating. I know ultimately it’s not a reflection on me but yeah, putting yourself out there creatively can be scary and frustrating in equal measures at times. I try to push through the days that are hard, giving myself time to just mope it all out. In the end I love to write, take photos and create posts so if no one else wants to read it that’s just a shame but it’s not the end of the world!

Etsy Shop

I’ve decided to go through a rebranding with Pretty Little Finch and want to move away from just selling bird-related bits and bobs (even though I still love birds.) I just want to branch out a bit and make it more inclusive and fun. I’m currently working on some new designs and I have a new look and feel (and logo.) It’s still in the early stages but I’m excited for what might come. Over on Instagram I have been getting lots of positive feedback about my pins and have been swapping with a lot of really cool makers which feels good. I love it when I’m tagged in collection photos as it really does feel validating and make what I’m trying to do seem worthwhile.

Life and Mental Health

I finally finished my latest course of therapy. Honestly, I don’t feel great about it; I really do feel as if I was starting to make progress and now that’s kinda stopped along with my sessions. My therapist was so lovely and supportive and it always helped me just to know that no matter what happened, every Wednesday she would be there. It’s hard going it alone without that kind of support network. I have friends and family members there for me which is great but, she really understood the ins and outs of my illness so it was easier for me to be open with her. I’m still working through all the booklets she gave me, and I have a lot of good, solid advice to reflect back on when I need it. I guess I will have to make even more of an effort to take care of myself now, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We could all do with loving ourselves that little bit more.

2017 really has been the year for adventure so far! If you’ve been following my blog you’ll have read about my trips from Calke Abbey , Hever CastleSouthend on Sea to our wonderful holiday in Cornwall and flying birds of prey ! I’m super-excited about an upcoming villa holiday in Menorca too. Taking time out really is good for the soul. I can’t wait to explore, soak up the sun and swim in our own private pool. Posts to follow!

Let me know if you’d like to see more, or possibly less life updates in the future. I can never tell if these types of posts are a little boring or not?!
