It’s Thursday 12th and I have managed to rope my fiancé in to co-writing todays Blogtober post with me. And guess what? It’s a couples tag!

Let’s begin…

Where did we meet?

Yasmine:

Instagram.

Gareth:

Instagram.

Where was our first date?

Yasmine:

We met up in Oxford Circus then walked to this trendy bar in Soho called Graphic where we had Amaretto Sours. Afterwards he took me to a gay bar. Not quite sure what vibes he was trying to convey…

Gareth:

We arranged to meet outside Oxford Circus station where I walked up to Yasmine and gave her a big hug, little did I know she didn’t like hugs from strangers. It must have been a good hug as I’m still here. After that we went for Amaretto Sours in a cool little bar so Yasmine would think I knew the best spots, and then a gay bar just to confuse her.

What was your first impression of me?

Yasmine:

When we met up Gareth gave me a big hug, so I was actually a little bit scared! But I think once we sat down my first impressions were that he was cute, super-funny, had a great taste in cocktails and was someone I connected with.

Gareth:

Yasmine made me laugh loads, which I really liked. Although it was our first time meeting there were no awkward silences and we had a great night together. Obviously my very first impression was “I don’t think she likes hugs.”

When did you meet my family?

Yasmine:

I met Gareth’s mum and dad on the day we moved in together! Not the most conventional of scenarios.

Gareth:

I can’t remember the first time I met Yasmine’s Mum Michelle as it feels like I’ve known her since Yasmine and I were together but I do remember meeting her younger brother Ben and her Dad at a wedding!

Do I have any weird obsessions, if so, what?

Yasmine:

I don’t like to use the word weird, but Gareth has lots of obsessions as he is a collector like me! He is obsessed with collecting vinyl and music in general. Loves his football team (West Ham) spends a great deal of time creating custom wrestlers on xbox (okay, maybe that one is weird) and together we are both obsessed with our birds.

Gareth:

I feel at this point that I can’t adequately answer this question while holding down a full-time job and maintaining our home-life, there just isn’t enough time! In short, Yasmine likes collecting most things that are cute and small. Sonny Angels, Blythe Dolls, independent jewellery, mandrake root teddy-bears, conkers, pine cones, random sea creatures and vintage books. (The usual). She has the best weird obsessions. Oh, and Instagram (sorry!)

How long have we been together?

Yasmine:

On Christmas eve it will have been three years.

Gareth:

Almost three years.

Do we have a tradition together?

Yasmine:

One tradition we have is celebrating Christmas together on Christmas eve (as we aren’t usually together on the big day.) It’s our anniversary too so we kind of roll both in to one super-lovely event. We have a big roast dinner, cold meats and cheeses in the evening and open our presents together in the morning.

Gareth:

Christmas-Eve Christmas is our biggest tradition as we both spend Christmas with our families separately. It always feels like a proper Christmas Day so we aren’t missing out at all because we make the day so special; it’s also our anniversary so double celebration. We also tend to make sure we do something for Halloween as we both love it!

What was the first thing you noticed about me?

Yasmine:

I would say probably the tattoos! But also his dress sense as I liked all the Fred Perry’s and tartan shirts that he wore.

Gareth:

Well, naturally I thought Yasmine was incredibly beautiful as I approached her – even more than in any pictures I’ve seen; also her dress sense which is always ‘on-fleek.’ I think I got that right.

What is my favourite restaurant?

Yasmine:

This is a tough one as Gareth likes so many! I’m going to go with Red Dog Saloon as that’s a good all-rounder that we both enjoy.  I think Bodeans comes in at close second. And of course, if we’re going out for burgers Gareth likes to stop at Bleecker Street in Spitalfields!

Gareth:

I would probably say the most happy I’ve seen Yasmine eating was at Meat Mission as the burgers are sublime, but also Bleecker Street and I think our overall favourite together is probably Red Dog Saloon as we’ve been there the most together.

If I am watching TV, what am I watching?

Yasmine:

Gareth watches a lot of TV series so this one is kind of tough. That said, currently he is watching Peaky Blinders so probably that or Rick and Morty.

Gareth:

Yasmine is a stickler for her old favourites so these always cheer her up. The IT Crowd, My Mad Fat Diary and Snuffbox I would say.

What drink do I order when we go out to eat?

Yasmine:

If it’s a beer kind of event it would probably be a Bud. Cocktail wise my money is on a well-made Caipirinha or Amaretto/Red Stag sours.

Gareth:

Budweiser or a cocktail. We are lucky that we have the same taste in cocktails so many, MANY a good night has been had on the back of that.

What is one talent I have?

Yasmine:

Gareth has loads of talents but perhaps the one I appreciate the most (on a selfish level) is his amazing cooking skills. I would much rather have one of his home-made lasagnas or chillis than eat out any day of the week. Without doubt Gareth is the best cook I know.

Gareth:

This will sound cliche and biased but Yasmine has an incredible amount of talents that she won’t confess to. She is my favourite author so I would probably say writing is the pinnacle, because I could literally read her writing all day.

What can I spend hours doing?

Yasmine:

Making scary-looking custom wrestlers on the xbox.

Gareth:

Instagram. I joke, but for Yasmine it’s a source of inspiration but also checking out independent designers and fellow Sonny Angel / Blythe collectors. It’s a way to wind down and it’s definitely about whatever makes people happy. If not then you can definitely find her with a good book in her hand – she reads more than anyone I know.
