September crept in slowly, bringing with it a chill in the air.
Autumn may not yet be in full swing, but there are signs of it everywhere. Leaves are beginning to curl and turn – sparks of rust, burgundy and amber burning between the green. Trees are laden with shiny conkers, bushes with bright red berries. And robins are glimpsed in gardens once more, projecting their song against a grey dawn.
As the nights draw in I can’t help but feel that familiar pang of excitement for the months ahead. Autumn is such a wondrous season filled in equal measure with death and colour, decay and beauty.
I can’t wait to warm my hands on paper cups of Pumpkin Spice Latte on cold commutes to work. To kick through piles of leaves and fill my jacket pockets with shiny conkers. I’m excited to celebrate Halloween, to stand around a bonfire as smoke fills my nostrils and to watch fireworks explode and glitter in the sky. When the rain rolls in I’ll light candles, take warm bubble baths and curl up with a good book and a soft blanket.
There is so much to look forward to and be thankful for, now that September is here.
Hello September, I am so glad to see you again.
