Skin and Haircare Products; The Honey Edit

Honey really is a wonder product; it tastes delicious, it smells great and it has lots of health benefits. Brilliant at nourishing skin and hair, honey also contains antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It’s no wonder then that our market is so saturated with health and beauty buys packed full of honey. Here I share my ultimate favourite honey skin and haircare products.

Top Ten Favourite Lush Products

Let me preface this post with a warning; I am a horrible, horrible liar. Try as I might I just wasn’t able to pick only ten products to rave about. That means this catchily-titled top ten is actually a top 11 (I just couldn’t bring myself to call it a top 11 because really, who does that?)

That off of my chest, I’d like to tell you about my all-time favourite Lush products. It’s kind of hard to pick when everything is so wonderful but there are definitely some things I hold above all others. Weirdly writing this list has shown me I have a preference for sparkly glittery things (I’m really a magpie) and seasonal goodies that are impossible to hunt down during the warmer months (cry!)

Anyway, here’s what makes my heart beat faster…

Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb £4.25

Sharing the ‘Honey I Washed The Kids’ scent, this toffee/honey/pudding scented bath bomb is one of my all time favourites. Firstly; it smells amazing. Absolutely mouth-watering! (Which isn’t something you can say for every bath bomb.) Secondly, it looks incredible in the tub. The bomb itself contains cocoa stars which melt in the water leaving it super-soft and moisturising. It leaves the water a deep, inky blue colour which when combined with the mounds of gold glitter, leaves you feeling as if you’re bathing in a midnight sky. The whole experience is beautiful and very comforting. I wish Shoot for the Stars was a regular line but unfortunately it only comes out around Christmas time. I suppose in a way this makes it more special but I do always have the fear it may not come back! I have three of these horded away in a stash waiting for a very special occasion.

Scrubee body butter £6.95

Another honey-scented and seasonal product that I adore is Scrubee. This body butter is shaped like an adorable bee, is packed with ground almond and coconut shells and smells yummy. This is a product that can be used in the shower or bath and leaves your skin feeling so soft that there really is no need for additional moisturiser or body oil once you’re dry. I am so sad that this is not going to be kept on as a permanent all year round product because it does wonders for my skin and I really feel there is a gap in the market for it. For now I have been stocking up on as many as possible and hoarding them away as I don’t know how I’ll cope without this little guy.

lush6

Golden Egg Bath Bomb Melt £3.95

So by now you’re probably catching on to the theme; I really like honey scented products. This isn’t even the last honey-scented product on the list (sorry!) Anyway, Golden Egg is so fun and I always look forward to Easter every year because I know it’s going to be released. This toffee/honey smelling egg is super sparkly with lots of golden glitter that swirls around in your bath. It’s a combination of a bath bomb and a melt so it’s pretty unique and leaves your water really soft and moisturising. It’s also a measly £3.95 so amazing value for money. Another product I stock up on.

Honey Bee Bath Bomb discontinued

As much as it pains me to say it, one of my all time favourite bath bombs from the regular range is something that has been discontinued (sobbing.) However I recently discovered that it is still being sold in the Blooming Beautiful gift set (alongside Rose Jam.) So if you’re willing to splash out £10 every now and then for this beautiful bath bomb then you’re all good. It also appears in the Kitchen from time-to-time but I haven’t been lucky enough to catch it. Anyway, this bath bomb smells incredible. It smells of honey but it’s quite fresh and very sweet- it doesn’t share the same scent as the items above. It contains rhassoul mud also so it does great things for your skin. This was always my go-to treat or bath bomb whenever I visited Lush. Now my go-to bath bomb is…

lush1

Avobath Bath Bomb £3.50

I always feel that Avobath is such an underrated bath bomb. Rarely do I hear people rave about it and I suppose that’s because it’s kind of ‘no thrills’. And by that I mean, it doesn’t spew out a rainbow whilst popping candy crackles and a little note floats out from the centre (but believe me, if that’s what you’re looking for Lush has a bath bomb for you.) No, Avobath is just a nice simple bath bomb that leaves your water soft and green with a tiiiiiny bit of lustre. What I really love about it is the smell; it smells wonderful. It contains avocado, lemongrass oil, bergamot oil etc but the overwhelming scent for me is citrus. It’s a really fresh, fruity and moreish type of smell that I love. Avobath is great for when your skin is feeling dry or dull or in the morning when you need to wake up. I think these types of bath bombs are overlooked because of how simple they are but, Avobath is a true staple for me and it’s one I will always pop in my basket.

lush8

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.65

I don’t want to go around making bold statements that aren’t true but…I really think this might be my all time favourite Lush product. There, I’ve said it. And it still feels right. Another seasonal product (sigh) Sparkly Pumpkin does what it says on the tin. It’s shaped like an adorable little pumpkin – and it’s covered in glitter.  It makes the most amazing mound of soft bubbles, turns the water a vibrant and a glittering orange and it smells like…well, I’m not quite sure. It contains lime and grapefruit oils but I wouldn’t say it smelt overly fruity. To me it’s sweeter – actually very similar to a bag of sweets. The scent is probably my favourite part of this bubble bar but really it’s a fantastic all-rounder. It’s a part of the Halloween range which I always highly anticipate and shares its’ scent with Mr Punch soap. I find that frustrating because this small scent family means I’m literally never able to bathe in the glorious smell until Halloween rolls around. I only have one left in my stash which is pretty heart-breaking, and it’s definitely not looking in its’ prime. I think I will hang on to it until a very special occasion arises (like perhaps Halloween next year.)

lush5

The Magic of Christmas Bubble Wand £5.95

I purchased the Magic of Christmas bubble bar online based on looks alone.  The design is incredibly festive with a  star-shaped bubble bar studded with dried anise and cloves, brushed with silver lustre and attached to a chunky stick of cinnamon. Oh, and there’s a ribbon and bow thrown in for good measure. I happen to love bubble bars and this one is reusable so even without smelling it it ticked all the right boxes. I was so surprised by just how much I loved it when it came through the door though. The scent completely encapsulates Christmas for me. Orange, cinnamon and benzoin mix together to create a yummy cake-like scent. Last year was the first year that I tried Magic of Christmas and I only purchased one (d’oh!) but I’m so hopeful that it will be back this year because it’s so lovely and perfect for cold winter nights.

1

The Comforter Bubble Bar £4.95

Another bubble bar on the list, the Comforter is my regular line go-to. This bubble bar is hefty in size and I find I can get around four very decent bubble baths from it. The scent is also very strong and leaves your skin smelling positively edible (but that would be cannibalism so let’s not, please.) With a fruity aroma of blackcurrants, this bubble bar is a firm favourite among many seasoned Lushies.

lush9

Sleepy Body Lotion £7.95 for 95g

Sleepy was the biggest surprise for me. I have never liked that floral scent that lavender gives off.  Well not the kind that appears in lots of bath products anyway (fresh lavender is another thing altogether.) So I didn’t expect to like the lavender-heavy Sleepy. I got a small tub of it in a Christmas gift box from my boyfriend so it was kind of thrust upon me. I am so glad. Sleepy is packed full of tonka and oatmeal and it is a very sweet smelling lotion. (Think Twilight.) The idea is that you smother it on your skin after a bath and before bed to send you off to the land of nod. I really do think it works and the scent- wow. I don’t know if this will come back but I hope it does because it’s a fantastic product and I only have one 215g tub of the stuff left!

lush10

Snow Fairy Shower Gel £3.75 for 100g (but you’ll want the 1kg bottle)

Snow Fairy is one of my all-time favourite scents from Lush and to me a whiff of the stuff brings back happy memories of Christmases past. Some people think that spotting the Coke lorry is the herald of Christmas but for me it’s when this amazing pink shower gel appears in the Lush shop windows. Luckily for me and the many other Snow Fairy shower gel fans, this scent comes in many different formats and flits in and out of the shop throughout the year. Of course, nothing quite matches up to the shower gel so it’s always good to stock up during the boxing day sales.

lush2

Yummy Mummy Shower Cream £4.95 for 100g

I only recently got turned on to Yummy Mummy shower cream during a bloggers event at my local Lush. Prior to that event I hadn’t smelt Yummy Mummy and I wasn’t overly bothered about it (despite the fact the brilliant purple is very appealing.) But when I got to rub the stuff over my hands during a demo I realised that it truly is the work of the Gods. And once again, this is a seasonal product that only comes out for Mothers Day. Sometimes I really could sit down with Lush and have a stern word! Anyway, Yummy Mummy smells like strawberries and cream so as you can imagine; delicious. There are lots of other products with a similar scent (all of which I have stocked up on) but the shower cream really is the best.

Now you’ve read my list, what are your favourite Lush goodies?

Top Ten Crime/Thriller Fiction Reads

Since the middle of last year when I took up reading again (I’d gone through a dry spell), I have been hoovering up all the crime and thriller I can get my hands on. I’ve come across some truly terrible books, but also some wonderful ones that I couldn’t put down. Goodreads has become a friend to me; I literally wont buy a book unless I’ve read the reviews on there first! And I’m always looking out for inspiration. I thought I’d compile my top ten of thriller/crime books as a little guide to get you started (or help you find your next read!) These are in no particular order as it was hard enough identifying (just) ten favourites to begin with!

Lush Mother Earth Bath Bomb Review

When I first spotted mother Earth in the Lush Kitchen I thought to myself: “Why on Earth is this bath bomb so expensive?!” Priced at £7.95 I couldn’t work out what was so special about it if I am being honest. It looks nice sure; with its’ blue and green swirls it looks just like a mini Earth. But I didn’t think it warranted the price tag. That was until I did some serious Googling.

February Lust List

We made it through January, hurrah! The romantic month of February was cold, damp and a little miserable but March is finally here and I’m super excited for Spring. Anyway, here’s a few things that set my heart racing this month.

Mini Lush Kitchen Haul

I was bitterly disappointed to miss the Lush boxing day sales this year as I had hoped to snatch up lots of lovely bargains. To cheer myself up I thought I’d pick up a few exclusive goodies from the Lush Kitchen instead. I purchased all online and have not used any of these before.

When the box was delivered I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed as I favour fruity and sweet smells and this box was emanating a heavy floral scent. Kind of silly of me as almost everything I picked up has floral elements to it. Anyway, I’m still excited to give everything a go and broaden my Lush horizons.

October Lust List – What I’ve Loved This Month

Orange leaves, shiny conkers, cold nights and Halloween festivities – the changing of season from Summer to Autumn has been gradual but fun and I’ve really enjoyed October.

With this in mind, I thought I’d try something a bit different and recap what I’ve loved this month!

The Lush Halloween Range

From Sparkly Pumpkins to melt in the bath ghosts, the Lush Halloween range has really impressed me this month and I’m loving it all! Old favourites have made a re-appearance whilst new pieces have pleasantly surprised. Bubble baths are particularly rewarding as the nights get colder, longer and darker. There’s nothing more satisfying than a soak in soft perfumed bubbles whilst it rains bitterly outside.

My favourite from this range was The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.95

l5

The Sonny Angel Halloween Series

I’m a sucker for all things Halloween and the new Sonny Angel range is no exception! I’m absolutely loving the adorably spooky designs and was lucky enough to open one of each – including the super-rare Robby!

Sonny Angels £7.50 per blind box. You can buy them at Didi Inspired!

Mustard Yellow Knits

Scouring the shop rails this month I have seen my favourite autumnal colours pop up once again. Flashes of rust orange, forest greens, burgundy and mustard yellow. With the weather getting colder, chunky knits are a must-have and I’ve picked up a couple of really lovely mustard yellow pieces from Primark as well as knitting up my own scarf in this dreamy and cosy colour.

This lovely cable knit cost just £10 from Primark. If you want one you’ll have to hurry – sizes for these seem to be quite limited.

Thriller Books

This month I’ve been reading The Book of You by Clare Kendall and Try Not To Breathe by Holly Seddon- both of which have had me gripped. I love a thriller and trying to work out the mysteries hidden between the pages of a good book. If you’re looking for something a little different, I can’t recommend these novels enough. Perfect for lazy weekend reading.

The Book of You £7.99 and Try Not To Breathe £7.99 both paperbacks from Waterstones.

Crime Podcasts

I’m a big fan of crime podcasts, and don’t know how I would get through hours of work without them to keep me company. My all time favourite is Sword and Scale (which you can listen to here) This is perfect listening if you have a morbid sense of curiosity and want a snug evening indoors with the heating turned up and the candles on.

I Love Crafty Autumn Kitties Range

I love picking up fun jewellery pieces to add a playful accent to my outfits and I am a big fan of the I Love Crafty X Pony People seasonal kitties collab. Last year I snagged a Halloween and Spring Kitty. This year I was lucky enough to win a fantastic voucher for Etsy in an instagram competition and there was no doubt I’d be spending it on the adorable Autumn kitties range! What a perfect way to celebrate the season in style. I picked up this cute kitty napping on a mushroom.

Christmas Lush Haul

Some people may have a problem with my using the ‘C’ word so soon in to October. We haven’t reached Halloween yet so it seems a little early to even be contemplating Christmas. But in the world of Lush (and retail in general) Christmas is pretty much already here. Soz Grinches!  Anyway, Lush released there Christmas goodies just a week after the Halloween stuff. Whilst this was very exciting for me, it did also leave a dent in my bank balance! I wasn’t able to get one of everything from this range but I did pick up a few pieces that I’m very happy with. (And I’m sure I’ll be back for the rest at some point.)

Before I launch in to what I got, I’d like to quickly apologise for the slightly dramatic lighting -it’s a really grey and rainy Sunday and I didn’t manage to catch the weak morning sunlight as I was busy knitting a winter scarf and catching up on Catfish.

The Magic of Christmas  Bubble Bar Wand £5.95

This is a new to me product and, whilst I haven’t actually tried it yet (I wanted to take photographs first) the smell is absolutely amazing and definitely my new favourite. It’s actually quite similar to Sparkly Pumpkin but with a punch cinnamon and almond scent. It smells beautiful – just like Christmas. Already I know I’m going to have to stock up on these!

1

Peeping Santa Bubble Bar £3.95

The next thing I got was the Peeping Santa Bubble bar. I’d seen this around previously but I’ve never tried it. I hadn’t smelt it before either and when I bought it online, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the scent but I did know it was super-cute and Christmassy. I’m happy to report that it’s quite nice. I find it very subtle and less ‘perfumey’ than the other goodies. It has organic cocoa and shea butter in so I’m sure it will leave my skin feeling soft. My peeping Santa has slightly strange eyes – they look more like moustaches to me!

2

The Christmas Penguin Bubble Bar £3.95

Yet another bubble bar in my order, I couldn’t resist the cute Christmas Penguin. This is a citrusy smelling bubble bar with Sicilian lemon and mandarin oils.  Not quite sure what that little yellow splodge is !

6

Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb £4.25

Also new to me is the Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb. This bomb smells absolutely AMAZING. It features lime and orange scents – but it smells like pineapple and very much edible. The sweet scent is really strong and I can’t wait to try it out in the bath. The pink side of the bomb feels different in texture – really waxy. The bomb contains fair trade cocoa butter so I’m sure it will leave the skin super soft.

3

Shoot For The Stars Bath Bomb £4.25

This is an absolutely beautiful bath bomb with a vibrant blue shade interspersed with glittering gold stars. It’s almost too beautiful to want to use. I say almost because the scent is so lovely. Again this is a new favourite for me. The scent is orange and bergamot but it smells more sweet than fruity. If you like sweet perfume type scents I think you will really appreciate this special bath bomb.

4

Luxury Lush Pud Bath Bomb £4.25

Last but not least I picked up the Luxury Lush Pud. I love the design of this one as it’s just so fun and playful! This bomb is very sweet smelling and contains tonka (although I’m not really sure what this is!) and lavender. You can’t really smell the lavender so much though – it’s more of a cake kind of smell. This would be a great bath bomb for the evening though, just before bed and when you want to relax.

5

So that’s what I picked up. My boyfriend also bought me a stash of Sparkly Pumpkins because I love them so much. But my Lush Lust List is as follows:

Snow Fairy Shower gel

Fairy Dust Dusting Powder

Candy Mountain Bubble Bar

Golden Wonder Bath Bomb

What is your favourite bath time treat from this range?

Lush Autumn/Halloween Haul

Halloween is a very special time of year for me – not least because it means that Lush will release all their special goodies! On the Saturday I headed for the Lakeside store to pick up all the new bits! Unfortunately they didn’t have everything I wanted -but the selection was still good and I managed to get the majority of what I was looking for. Here’s what I got:

Autumn Leaf Bath Bomb £3.75

The first thing I picked up was the Autumn Leaf bath bomb. A beautiful smelling, leaf shaped bomb in autumnal colours. I haven’t seen this before so I think it might be brand new for 2016 (correct me if I’m wrong!) The scent is quite sweet with citrus, bergamot and sandalwood.

l1

Monster’s Ball Bath Bomb £3.95

The Monster’s Ball bath bomb is, as you can see, a very fun addition to the line up! With its one eye and little horns I just couldn’t resist. It also smells just like sweets! It’s hard to put my thumb on the exact scent – and the website just says ‘perfume’ but it is very sweet smelling. This bomb contains Fair Trade Organic cocoa butter – so although I haven’t tried it yet I can imagine it will leave the skin feeling very soft.

l4

Lord Of Misrule Bath Bomb £3.95

This bath bomb has a faint glitter running through it (which doesn’t pick up in the photo.) It is described on the website as having a “spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil” and a deep wine coloured centre. Out of all the scents this is probably my least favourite but it’s still pleasant and I’m looking forward to giving it a go!

l2

Pumpkin Bath Bomb £3.95

The Pumpkin bath bomb has to be one of my favourites in terms of design/appearance as I absolutely love the carved pumpkin face! This bath bomb smells very sweet with vanilla and cinnamon recreating the scent of home baking. It also turns your water a very satisfying orange!

l3

Boo Bath Melt £3.50

This spooky little bath melt has a very subtle smell with hints of ginger and cocoa butter to smooth your skin. Like most of the goodies in this post I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet so I don’t know if it will become a favourite but I couldn’t resist that little face!

l6

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.95

Last but not least I picked up the Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble bar. This is my all time favourite Lush product and last year I stocked up on as many of these as I could before the season ended. This time I picked up just two – but I know I will be back for more! The scent is my most favourite of all. It is incredibly sweet – it contains cinnamon, juniper berry, citrus and ‘perfume’. I think it’s the perfume that gives this one its scent but I honestly can’t describe what that is. It’s kind of fruity. Like a bag full of crushed sweets. This bubble bar creates a lot of lovely bubbles and turns the water (as you may have guessed) a bright orange. It has a lot of glitter too which swirls about in the water and sticks to your skin leaving you with a lovely shiny glow!

l5

All in all I was very happy with my haul and can’t wait to go back and pick up some bits and bobs! What are you loving in Lush right now?

Hi guys,

today I thought I’d try my hand at something different and give vlogging a go. I started off with a Primark Haul vid. I may or may not make more of these. I hope you enjoy!
