April Lust List

April has been yet another busy month for me. It has been a month filled with fun events and personal projects- and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Now that it’s May (I can’t believe how quickly this year is going!) it’s time to look back at what I have loved.

Please note: this post contains affiliate links.

The Woman in Cabin 10 book by Ruth Ware £7.99 from Waterstones.

I haven’t had a great deal of time to read this month so I’m ashamed to say I got through just two, maybe three books, squeezing in reading on my commutes to and from work. One book that I read and found absolutely gripping though was The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. The premise of the book wasn’t immediately catching to me, but my mum kept suggesting and recommending it so I thought I’d give it a go. I’m happy to report that I’m glad I did! The Woman in Cabin 10 is in essence, a sophisticated Whodunnit? set on a luxury cruise ship. Lo Blacklock, travel journalist is our protagonist and we follow her through her chance to make it big covering the maiden voyage of a boutique cruise ship. Things don’t exactly go to plan on board though, and one night Lo is awoken by the sounds of someone being thrown overboard. Lo desperately tries to find out who has been murdered but becomes increasingly frustrated and paranoid as cruise staff are stubborn and unhelpful. The book is a really fast-paced, tense read and it’s easy to consume it in just a couple of sittings. I really enjoyed the character development and the unsettling atmosphere that Ware creates. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of thriller.

Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar from the Lush Kitchen

When the Magic Mushroom bubble bars were announced in the kitchen I was pretty excited. For one thing they look absolutely adorable (who doesn’t love a good Fly Algaric?!) and for another they are scented like delicious strawberries. Sharing the Yummy Mummy/Roller scent I knew I would adore these. I bought four (and as always wished I had bought more) and immediately fell in love. They are the most effective bubble bar I have ever used, creating huge swathes of bubbles that are super-soft and highly scented. You could easily use just half a bubble bar to create a wonderful bath however, I like the decadence of a whole bar.

5

Montagne Jeunesse Manuka Honey Hair Rescue Hair Mask £1 from Primark

I have been a big fan of the Montagne Jeunesse face masks for years. In particular I love the honey face mask as nothing is quite as effective as that is at clearing my face up from a particularly bad breakout. Plus it smells amazing. Anyway, as I was browsing in Primark the other day I came across some new hair rescue masks by the same brand. Perfect timing really as my hair has been feeling super dry and damaged. I noticed they had a Manuka Honey mask so figured I would give it a go. All I can say is wow! These masks smell exactly the same as the face masks (absolutely delicious) and they really work. After using one my hair was left feeling so soft and nourished. I immediately went back and stocked up. I haven’t seen these in any other shops yet so if you want to give them a try I would definitely pop in to Primark. These have to be my beauty buy of the month.

34

Lush Bee Tote Bag £4.50 from Lush

I popped in to Lush the other day to pick up some goodies and whilst I was there I noticed an adorable tote bag printed with bees. The sales assistant explained to me that it was made out of a recycled knot wrap and it had a little pocket in the front with in which it could fold itself. A big fan of bees and tote bags I knew I just had to it have it. This bag is a lot thinner than a usual tote bag so I don’t think I could use it for everyday wear however, I think I will take it along with me on trips to Lush and the supermarket. At £4.50 it’s great value for money and a cute little thing to have. I haven’t seen these online so you may have to pop in to store if you want to get your hands on one.

12

Plush Ladybird Bubble Bar £11 from Plushies by Squishie.

Another Lush-themed item on the list is this incredible plush ladybird bubble bar by Plushies by Squishie. So, I have been following this maker over on Instagram for awhile now, admiring her fantastic creations from afar. However, when she announced she would be opening up an Etsy shop I knew I had to get involved and snap up one of her pieces! Plushies by Squishie creates plush versions of popular Lush products. The reason this is so great is that Lush comes up with the most adorable products and at times you can feel guilty using them, so instead end up stashing them away. With a plush version of your Lush, you can forever keep that little guy which enables you to use up the real goodies guilt free! I love the ladybird bubble bar because it looks great and smells wonderful, so the plush version was a no brainer for me! Such great care and attention to detail has gone in to this little guy. I will definitely try to buy some more when she brings them out again! I believe they sold out in a matter of hours so if you want one you’ll have to stay tuned for updates and be prepared to do a lot of refreshing!

The Return of The Lucky Dip Club

Okay okay. So it’s not quite back in my life…yet. But Leona has just announced the return of our beloved subscription box and the new format sounds incredible! To test out the new postage options Leona sent out some Pinyatay goodies. More specifically, this cute little guy! I loved receiving this piece of happy mail and it has definitely made me feel excited for the May launch of ‘My Rainbow Life’.

Pin Swapping and This Amazing Zebra Finch Brooch

This month I have been swapping enamel pins like nobodies business. It’s great to swap with other creatives and build up a cool collection of pins in the process! Anyway, when Lucky Dip Club held a swap shop over on their Facebook page I definitely thought I’d get involved! One of the swaps I made was with a woman who had this incredible vintage tin zebra finch brooch up for grabs. I was so excited to see this up in the swap shop as I adore zebra finches and keep many of my own. I even have a zebra finch tattoo! This was without doubt my favourite swap this month and I’m so in love with it. I haven’t worn it yet, and I’m not sure if I will as I’m very clumsy and don’t want to damage it. But for now it looks lovely sitting pretty on my chest of drawers!

January Lust List

The festivities are well and truly over. January is a difficult month -it’s hard to conjure up any sense of magic in the frozen mornings and rainy afternoons when there’s no fairy lights and tinsel to accompany the abysmal weather. It’s a terrible month, and it’s not hard to see why they call our reaction to it the ‘January blues’.

But let’s not let our pessimism run away with us. It’s not all bad. Here are my personal highlights of the month and the things that have kept me excited.

October Lust List – What I’ve Loved This Month

Orange leaves, shiny conkers, cold nights and Halloween festivities – the changing of season from Summer to Autumn has been gradual but fun and I’ve really enjoyed October.

With this in mind, I thought I’d try something a bit different and recap what I’ve loved this month!

The Lush Halloween Range

From Sparkly Pumpkins to melt in the bath ghosts, the Lush Halloween range has really impressed me this month and I’m loving it all! Old favourites have made a re-appearance whilst new pieces have pleasantly surprised. Bubble baths are particularly rewarding as the nights get colder, longer and darker. There’s nothing more satisfying than a soak in soft perfumed bubbles whilst it rains bitterly outside.

My favourite from this range was The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.95

l5

The Sonny Angel Halloween Series

I’m a sucker for all things Halloween and the new Sonny Angel range is no exception! I’m absolutely loving the adorably spooky designs and was lucky enough to open one of each – including the super-rare Robby!

Sonny Angels £7.50 per blind box. You can buy them at Didi Inspired!

Mustard Yellow Knits

Scouring the shop rails this month I have seen my favourite autumnal colours pop up once again. Flashes of rust orange, forest greens, burgundy and mustard yellow. With the weather getting colder, chunky knits are a must-have and I’ve picked up a couple of really lovely mustard yellow pieces from Primark as well as knitting up my own scarf in this dreamy and cosy colour.

This lovely cable knit cost just £10 from Primark. If you want one you’ll have to hurry – sizes for these seem to be quite limited.

Thriller Books

This month I’ve been reading The Book of You by Clare Kendall and Try Not To Breathe by Holly Seddon- both of which have had me gripped. I love a thriller and trying to work out the mysteries hidden between the pages of a good book. If you’re looking for something a little different, I can’t recommend these novels enough. Perfect for lazy weekend reading.

The Book of You £7.99 and Try Not To Breathe £7.99 both paperbacks from Waterstones.

Crime Podcasts

I’m a big fan of crime podcasts, and don’t know how I would get through hours of work without them to keep me company. My all time favourite is Sword and Scale (which you can listen to here) This is perfect listening if you have a morbid sense of curiosity and want a snug evening indoors with the heating turned up and the candles on.

I Love Crafty Autumn Kitties Range

I love picking up fun jewellery pieces to add a playful accent to my outfits and I am a big fan of the I Love Crafty X Pony People seasonal kitties collab. Last year I snagged a Halloween and Spring Kitty. This year I was lucky enough to win a fantastic voucher for Etsy in an instagram competition and there was no doubt I’d be spending it on the adorable Autumn kitties range! What a perfect way to celebrate the season in style. I picked up this cute kitty napping on a mushroom.

Lush Autumn/Halloween Haul

Halloween is a very special time of year for me – not least because it means that Lush will release all their special goodies! On the Saturday I headed for the Lakeside store to pick up all the new bits! Unfortunately they didn’t have everything I wanted -but the selection was still good and I managed to get the majority of what I was looking for. Here’s what I got:

Autumn Leaf Bath Bomb £3.75

The first thing I picked up was the Autumn Leaf bath bomb. A beautiful smelling, leaf shaped bomb in autumnal colours. I haven’t seen this before so I think it might be brand new for 2016 (correct me if I’m wrong!) The scent is quite sweet with citrus, bergamot and sandalwood.

l1

Monster’s Ball Bath Bomb £3.95

The Monster’s Ball bath bomb is, as you can see, a very fun addition to the line up! With its one eye and little horns I just couldn’t resist. It also smells just like sweets! It’s hard to put my thumb on the exact scent – and the website just says ‘perfume’ but it is very sweet smelling. This bomb contains Fair Trade Organic cocoa butter – so although I haven’t tried it yet I can imagine it will leave the skin feeling very soft.

l4

Lord Of Misrule Bath Bomb £3.95

This bath bomb has a faint glitter running through it (which doesn’t pick up in the photo.) It is described on the website as having a “spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil” and a deep wine coloured centre. Out of all the scents this is probably my least favourite but it’s still pleasant and I’m looking forward to giving it a go!

l2

Pumpkin Bath Bomb £3.95

The Pumpkin bath bomb has to be one of my favourites in terms of design/appearance as I absolutely love the carved pumpkin face! This bath bomb smells very sweet with vanilla and cinnamon recreating the scent of home baking. It also turns your water a very satisfying orange!

l3

Boo Bath Melt £3.50

This spooky little bath melt has a very subtle smell with hints of ginger and cocoa butter to smooth your skin. Like most of the goodies in this post I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet so I don’t know if it will become a favourite but I couldn’t resist that little face!

l6

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.95

Last but not least I picked up the Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble bar. This is my all time favourite Lush product and last year I stocked up on as many of these as I could before the season ended. This time I picked up just two – but I know I will be back for more! The scent is my most favourite of all. It is incredibly sweet – it contains cinnamon, juniper berry, citrus and ‘perfume’. I think it’s the perfume that gives this one its scent but I honestly can’t describe what that is. It’s kind of fruity. Like a bag full of crushed sweets. This bubble bar creates a lot of lovely bubbles and turns the water (as you may have guessed) a bright orange. It has a lot of glitter too which swirls about in the water and sticks to your skin leaving you with a lovely shiny glow!

l5

All in all I was very happy with my haul and can’t wait to go back and pick up some bits and bobs! What are you loving in Lush right now?

Primark Haul Vlog

Hi guys,

today I thought I’d try my hand at something different and give vlogging a go. I started off with a Primark Haul vid. I may or may not make more of these. I hope you enjoy!

SIDE NOTE: Sadly the quality has been compromised a little as the original video file was just too large 🙁 hopefully this does not impair your viewing. If you’d like to see more videos, leave me a comment below!

Didi Inspired Gifts and Toys Shop Review

If you follow me over on the ‘gram, you’ll know that my latest obsession is Sonny Angels – a cute, miniature kewpie doll with fun headgear that hails from Japan. I bought a couple a few months ago and from there it spiralled. I have a nice collection of them now (but no home for them so if anyone can link me to some fun shelving that’d be great) and it is ever-growing. These little toys are highly collectable and secret versions command good money. I don’t care about all that though – I just love their cute little faces!

 ANYWAY.

In a previous post I mentioned one of my favourite shops to buy these little guys from; Retro Kids. In this post I’d like to mention another – Didi Inspired Gifts and Toys which you can find here. Didi Inspired Gifts and Toys is an independent online shop run by the lovely Fiona. This shop is amazing for Sonny Angels (and other cute collectables) so if you’re looking to grow your collection I really can’t recommend it enough. As always with these types of posts, I’m shouting out Didi Inspired because it is an indie, small business that provides amazing service. If you don’t already you really should start – shop small.

I first discovered Didi Inspired through eBay as Fiona has a shop over on there too. I had been searching in vain for the elusive Sonny Angel Halloween series and just couldn’t find it anywhere – so I hopped on over to eBay and to my luck found that Didi Inspired sold the series. From there I realised that there was also a site, and it was filled with Angel goodness!

I have lost count now how many times I have shopped at Didi Inspired but I am so impressed with the service I have received every time. Firstly, Fiona is very helpful, accommodating and just a lovely woman to chat to – and that’s something I really value and look for in small business. If you have a query Fiona will get back to you promptly and she’s always happy to help. Delivery is always very prompt also, another biggie for me as I’m super impatient! Everything is always packaged well and Fiona always leaves a little note of thanks and discount code for the next time. It’s small details like these that make you feel valued as a customer (and of course, want to come back to shop again!)

The last order I made with Didi Inspired was for an entire box of Sonny Angel Animal Series one. I was really excited to discover that these were on sale at the quite frankly amazing price of £59.99 – I think this is the cheapest you’ll find these anywhere online. Naturally when I saw the price I had to get them! If you’d like a whole box of Sonny goodness you grab one here! But please don’t grab them all as I would like to come back for more!

Anyway, my order arrived wrapped up securely and I was surprised and delighted to discover Fiona had thrown in a little freebie parrot! I love a good freebie so this discovery literally made my day. As I say, I have been shopping with Didi Inspired very frequently (so don’t expect a freebie with every order!)

What a …kewpie pie 😉

Inside one full series box you will get 12 individual boxes. These should, in theory contain one of each of the series. However you could get lucky with a secret. I do like the secrets but I’m not usually that lucky and anyway, I love having the full set. You can imagine how excited I was to open 12 of these little guys!

I guess you’re wondering who I got? Well, the full series duh! Here’s the line up…

sonny6
Frog, monkey, rabbit, elephant
sonny4
Lion, Koala, Crocodile, Dalmation
sonny5
Panda, Tiger, Leopard, Cockerel

And the full Animal series one line up together:

The usual suspects!

I had another fantastic shopping experience with Didi Inspired and was very happy with my order. In case you were wondering, the little rabbit is my favourite!

Didi Inspired Gifts and Toys doesn’t just sell Sonny Angels though, it’s packed full of cute collectables and goodies for children and adults alike. Some of my personal favourites:

Please note, I have not been paid or gifted to write this post, I have done so of my own accord because I have had a great experience and want to support this shop. Etsy review – biscuits, beans and a couple of Mandrakes

Over the past couple of months I’ve been doing some serious online shopping (whoops!) and have returned again to my favourite online outlet- Etsy! I’ve purchased some really cool things lately so thought I’d blog about what/who I’ve been splurging on.

Please note: this post contains affiliate links.

The Beast Peddler

You can find The Beast Peddler lurking HERE

This shop sells the most amazing handmade art dolls/plush all with a magical theme. It is stocked maybe once or twice a week, usually on Saturdays and stock can range from mandrakes, to teacup demons to little moths. My favourites are the adorable mandrakes and the mushroom folk. Unfortunately these guys are seriously hard to get. When the shop is restocked everything sells out in under a minute. Yep, beasts are apparently big business! I tried for months to get a mandrake without luck, then finally I managed to snag one! (He is called Enwulf and is the little guy on the right.) And my boyfriend managed to snag me one too! (Beowry) Ugh, they are beyond adorable and I am completely in love with them. These are definitely a collectors item though and they certainly don’t come cheap. They are very well made however, ship with an adoption certificate and just add a touch of magic to your home. I am besotted with my little mandrakes and can’t wait to get a mushroom folk to keep them company.

You Make Me Design

You can find this shop HERE

A recent discovery for me, You Make Me Design has very quickly become a new obsession. There’s so much in the shop I want to buy it’s crazy. YMMD features loads of super cool and kitsch jewellery that’s really fun. I am a HUGE fan of all the retro beans items (and have my eye on the cushion) This time I went for the little beans pin which I think is a fun way to add a touch of playfulness to an outfit. It’s been firmly stuck to the lapel of my coat all week and I’ve had lots of comments on it!

er1

Nikki Mcwilliams

You can find this shop HERE

So, I’ve mentioned this shop and Nikki’s fabulous biscuits over on this blog on a few occasions. So much so I hardly feel it needs an introduction however if you’re just joining me, Nikki sells amazing homewares and jewellery all with a super fun biscuit theme! I have a pair of custard cream cushions that I love, as well as a mini custard cream necklace and statement jammy dodger necklace. The next step was obviously one of her awesome brooches. I didn’t actually buy this from her Etsy shop – I went to her website, however she also has a shop over at Etsy so I thought it was worth a mention!

The brooch itself is of amazing quality. Very well made, vibrant and fun. I’ve already worn it out and had some comments on it, it’s just very fun!

er2

Wooden Siberia

You can find this shop HERE

I really don’t know how I stumbled across this shop but I am SO glad that I did. This shop sells kitsch, fun, cute and quirky wooden brooches that have been hand-painted. The designs are really great and the attention to detail is spot on. Let it be known that you heard about Wooden Siberia here first! I think this girl is going to be really successful with her shop and she’s one to watch for sure. I purchased the wooden pretzel brooch and she sent me some extra goodies too! I got an adorable ice lolly brooch, sticker and thank you note. The packaging was also extremely cute. The little touches are what really make me love shopping Etsy – customers are valued so much more and it’s that personal feel that makes it so rewarding. I love my pretzel brooch and lolly pop brooch and can’t wait to wear them around a snack-themed ensemble!

Etsy review – potatoes, eggs and a bit of Harley

I really enjoyed writing my last Etsy review, and, seeing as i’ve been on another mini-spree, thought I would write another.

Once again I’ve picked some really cool shops to shout out and highlight. I hope you like them as much as I do!

Please note: this post contains affiliate links.

Scrumptious Delight

You can find the shop here

The Scrumptious Delight shop sells amazing food, monster and more plushes which have evoked an almost cult-like following. All feature adorable little faces which you just can’t say no to.  I’ve had my eye on a worried potato for some time now, there’s just something about that concerned little face on a potato that I find irresistible. Luckily for me I managed to snag one last week. I was surprised at how quickly it arrived in the post considering it came all the way from Canada. As I expected, when I saw this cute little potato IRL I fell in love. What can I say? It is just so freaking adorable. Also, really well made. I imagine this would make a fantastic unique present for a friend (if you could bear to part with it) I couldn’t so this one’s for me.

etsyone
Why so worried, little potato?

Black Heart Creatives

You can find this fun shop here!

This shop sells really cool bespoke acrylic jewellery that’s fun to wear whilst making a serious style statement. Whilst I love everything in the shop there was no contest for me – the egg won hands down! The fried egg came in a neat little black package (for the inner goth) and arrived really safely. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the pendant (much larger than I had anticipated) and the sturdiness of it too. The first day I wore it to work it got a compliment (to which I shyly replied a thank you before scuttling away as fast as I could.) I would definitely recommend this shop-espicially for those looking for something unique and personalised. A necklace would make a fabulous and thoughtful gift for a daring friend. You can see me wearing my egg a couple of posts back.

What an eggs-ellent necklace

Obake Style

You can find this shop here

I stumbled across Obake Style when looking for a gift for my Harley Quinn-obsessed best friend. Straight away the unique design of this necklace stood out to me amongst all the generic Harley Quinn fodder on Etsy.  I was really pleased with this purchase and I have to say, the necklace is made really well and it’s certainly a high quality piece that looks really great. It also came super-quick and was packaged well (with a free temporary tattoo I believe.) My friend really liked the necklace too so that was a relief! I would recommend this shop for those in to their comic books/films – this could be particularly interesting for fans of anime.

Please note, the below is not my photograph – I took it from the Obake Style shop. I didn’t have the foresight to snap a pic of the thing before I gave it to my bestie!

harley

So that’s me (for now) Do you have a cool Etsy shop you can recommend?

Etsy reviews (haul)

Last month I decided to treat myself to a few bits and pieces from my ever-growing list of Etsy wants. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I love buying handmade and think it’s vastly superior to mass created crap.

I thought I’d do a little review of some of the things I have purchased and the shops I purchased them from for anyone looking to treat themselves (or a friend!) this month.

Please note: this post contains affiliate links.

Birds in Hats

You can visit the shop here

It does what it says on the tin. I’ve loved this shop ever since I first discovered it which was quite some time ago now. The shop sells lots of amazing art prints and cards featuring – you guessed it- birds in hats. The illustrations are quirky, cute and just really appealing, especially for bird enthusiasts. I have wanted to purchase a calendar for a few years running – but somehow the window of opportunity always slips past and someone else will buy me another one. Anyway, I noticed that in the shop was a card with a print of a Zebra finch wearing a straw boater. Self proclaimed queen of the zebra finch and crazy bird lady, I have 14 of these fluff balls ‘irl’ and figured it wouldn’t hurt to add a card version to the collection too. I purchased this adorable card for a very reasonable £3 (not inc p&p) This print is way too cute to send out in the post however so I’m going to frame it and hang it up on the wall with pride.

etsybuys.jpg

Tukoni Tribe

You can visit the shop here

I originally discovered this adorable moth brooch (and Tukoni Tribe) through a friends Instagram and I fell in love. Tukoni Tribe features lots of beautiful and inspiring art-prints and brooches based on animal illustrations. The moth brooch struck me the most because it is quite simply adorable. I have a friend who used to squish moths when they invaded her room – to make her feel super guilty about this I told her that moths were just butterflies in business suits! I’m sure not even she would want to squish this cute lil guy though – I’ll be wearing him everywhere to spread the word; moths are awesome! He wasn’t super cheap, around £16.33 including postage and packaging. So this one is definitely a treat for me. I am happy to pay that though because he is very nice – I’m sure he’d make a great gift too.

moth
This isn’t my picture, I took it from the Tukoni shop site. Doesn’t little moth look sweet?

Charming Creatures

You can visit the shop here

I reviewed this Etsy shop some posts back but it’s always a winner for me. Technically I didn’t treat myself to this one – my boyfriend did! But I certainly would have treated myself to a cute critter if he hadn’t. Charming Creatures sells stunning custom pet ornaments and necklaces and I’ve had a couple pieces from here that I adore. This time my lovely boyfriend requested a custom necklace of one of our owl finches. I couldn’t be happier with the result! It is made so well and looks just like little Pipkin. I can’t wait to wear this out and about!

etsybuys2.jpg

etsybuys3.jpg

Nikki McWilliams

You can visit the shop here

Another firm favourite of mine is Nikki McWilliams and her biscuit goodies. This shop sells amaaaaaazing biscuit-themed treats for your home, your office and you. My mother purchased me a wonderful jammy dodger necklace for my birthday and for Christmas this year I was incredibly lucky to receive two fantastic custard cream cushions! When I heard there was going to be a seconds sale and the opportunity to buy a pick n mix bag I was (rather sadly) besides myself with excitement. In the end I went for the pick n mix bag (the bourbon was cruelly snatched from my cart before I made it to checkout.) I didn’t technically buy this on Etsy – I actually visited her other online shop. However, she trades over on Etsy and that’s why she’s included in this list!

So, what did I get in the Pick n mix bag?

I got a wonderful custard cream necklace! (my favourite)

etsybuys5.jpg

A sew your own cushion kit (again custard cream) which I sewed rather clumsily but had a lot of fun with. And a pack of cards! All the things were wrapped up in the cutest of packaging.

etsybuys4.jpg

Overall I think I spoilt myself quite a lot but what can I say, I’m worth it (I’ll keep telling myself that!) Have you made any Etsy purchases lately?
