Farewell, Lush Kitchen And A Final Order

I adore the Lush Kitchen and everything about it; excitedly waiting for the menu to roll around each and every Friday at 3pm, anxiously waiting to snag a long-awaited exclusive when the Kitchen opens at 8am, all those magical parcels in the post that follow…

So it will come as no surprise that I was, to put it mildly, really upset when the Kitchen announced its closure quite suddenly a couple of weeks back.

Mini Lush Kitchen Haul (plus bonus bits)

I feel like it has been ages since I wrote my last Lush Kitchen Haul. In reality it was just a month ago! I have been so busy with my wonderful trip to Cornwall; time really flies!

Anyway, I haven’t actually been buying that much from the Kitchen lately. There just hasn’t been anything I’ve really fancied (sad times.) That said there were a couple of surprise releases that were particularly special that I felt were worth a mention.

Avowash Shower Gel

If you’ve read my Top Ten Lush post, you’ll know that Avobath bath bomb is one of my all time favourites. I just can’t get enough of that smell! When the Kitchen announced they would be making the shower gel version I knew I had to have it! I purchased two bottles and my boyfriend kindly bought me an extra one meaning I have three bottles of the good green stuff altogether. The scent is a gorgeous citrus, fairly true to the bath bomb. Although I can detect something else that smells a tiiiiiny bit like tea-tree to me. I took a bottle with me to Cornwall to use in the shower each morning and it definitely helped to wake me up, providing an invigorating wash that seemed to help with the muscle pains I was feeling. The next time this pops up I definitely recommend grabbing a bottle or two.

Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly

Although I have been debating buying a shower jelly for the longest time, I have never gotten round to it. I just haven’t found a scent that I’ve been all that in to if I’m being honest. I’m a little embarrassed to admit this is the first shower jelly I’ve ever owned. At any rate, at least it’s a good place to start! I decided on the shower jelly because everyone said it smelled just like the Comforter. I am a huge fan of the Comforter. In my stash I currently have a big Comforter bubble bar, the shower cream and a solid perfume. I was definitely interested in owning the shower jelly too! When I opened the lid and took a sniff I could definitely recognise the blackberry element of the Comforter in there but somehow it smells even more fruity if possible. For me there is this gorgeous note of cherries that features quite strongly. I adore this scent! It actually smells edible and, what with the jelly-like design, reminds me quite strongly of a pudding! I haven’t used the jelly yet so I can’t say how I feel about it as a product, but it’s one I’m really excited to try.

Space Girl Bath Bomb

Space Girl Bath Bomb wasn’t announced on the usual Friday menu so I had no idea it would be coming out at all. I had actually been requesting this bath bomb for weeks as prior to it being discontinued it was always a favourite. It’s funny though because even though I knew I loved it, where around three years had elapsed since I last tried it, I had forgotten what the scent was. Anyway, the night before it came in to the Kitchen there was a surprise announcement on Facebook. I couldn’t believe it! The next day I excitedly logged on and bought five. My boyfriend kindly topped that number up by buying another five as a surprise for me. When I found out he had done this I was incredibly grateful but also a little sceptical. Did I really need ten Space Girl bath bombs? When they arrived I opened the box to be greeted by the most magical smell of all. In that moment I knew; hell yes I needed ten! WOW. The smell of Space Girl is just like Palma Violets/sweets and is incredible. The design is also one of my favourites being a cute little planet with glitter. It turns the bath a pale lilac which is so lovely. This has to be my favourite Lush Kitchen purchase to date!

The last two things I want to talk about are not from the Kitchen but they are exclusive bits that will only be around for a very short while. Plus I have wanted these for so long and am so incredibly excited there was no way I could leave them out!

Lush Botanical Tote Bag RRP £6.95

When I saw this announced on Instagram I lost it. I have been trying (and failing) to get this bag for months! It was originally showcased at the big Summit event which I was unable to attend due to work commitments. Then it popped up in the kitchen for a very limited time. I completely missed it. However I was so desperate for it because A. I use tote bags every single day. I don’t really like handbags and tote bags are such an easy way to carry everyday essentials. B. I love botanical prints. When Lush bought out the botanical designs it reminded me so much of all the lovely illustrations you get in vintage field guides. C. I love Lush! So why wouldn’t I want this amazing bag?! Long story short, they came out whilst I was away in Cornwall, but my lovely mother popped in to our local Lush and picked me up two! I will probably grab a couple more before these leave completely as it’s my favourite bag ever.

6

Lush Botanical Knot Wrap RRP £4.50

And last but not least is this amazing knot wrap with the same botanical design! I hadn’t seen these before and didn’t know they would be bringing them out but I love them. I have already been putting mine to good use as a lovely little backdrop for all my Lush photographs! Not sure if I will use for my hair or just as a prop. Either way I’m sure I will get a lot of use out of it.

What have you been buying in the Lush Kitchen lately?

Lush Kitchen Haul

For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, the Lush Kitchen is probably one of the greatest inventions to man. The Kitchen releases a special menu for the week ahead each Friday (at around 3 o’clock.) On each day there are different products for sale, and these are very limited, exclusive goodies which can sell out in a matter of minutes.  Some of the products are discontinued whilst others are seasonal. I only discovered the Kitchen a matter of months ago but have been absolutely hooked since.

The past few weeks have been particularly good and I have found myself splurging a little more than I should! I’m not going to detail prices as most of this stuff is completely sold out now but, here’s what I’ve been buying:

Rose Jam Body Spray

It was only fairly recently that I discovered the Rose Jam scent. As I’ve mentioned before, I have never really been a fan of floral scents. But this scent is absolutely divine and very sweet. When I saw that it was being released as a body spray there was no question in my mind I had to have it. The body spray is absolutely wonderful; very strong and of a good quality. I think it smells like an expensive perfume, and it is very long-wearing also. Now all I need is for Lush to release a Honey I Washed The Kids body spray and I can die a happy (and incredible smelling) woman.

1

Twilight Shower Gel

Twilight is another one of those scents that I have only recently started to really enjoy.  Sleepy body lotion smells absolutely beautiful to me. The Lavender combined with the tonka is very sweet and dusky. Twilight and Sleepy share the same scent so, when the Twilight shower gel became available in the Kitchen I knew instantly it would become a favourite. This particular shower gel is very coveted among Lush fans and sold out in a matter of five minutes, crashing the site in the process! I was lucky enough to get my hands on two 250g bottles.

2

Candy Fluff Dusting Powder

I have never tried a dusting powder from Lush before but when I read that Candy Fluff shares the same scent as my beloved Snow Fairy I definitely couldn’t pass it up! This powder smells absolutely edible and I can’t wait to try it out! The bottle is quite small at 50g so I’m not sure how long it will last. I wish they had made bigger bottles as I can already tell I’m going to love this product.

4

Ma Bar Bubble Bars

Another new to me product, the Ma Bar shares its’ scent with my all-time favourites. Honey I Washed The Kids is a honey/toffee/pudding scent that is truly mouth-watering. I love the cute design of the Ma Bar and have read many good things about it. I love bubble bars anyway so I know I’m going to love this one. I purchased three but I’m already regretting that decision and wishing I’d bought a couple more to stash away!

3

Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb

And last but not least – one of my all time favourite Easter products, Fluffy Egg! You may have read in a previous post that I was quite disappointed to find that Fluffy Egg had been left out of the seasonal line-up this year. I have been buying Fluffy Egg religiously every time Spring rolls around for a good few years now. This cute little egg is Snow Fairy scented and creates an absolutely beautiful bath. I only purchased one as I had been seriously splurging in the kitchen! But again I’m already regretting this decision!

March Lust List

As March nears its’ end I thought I’d take the time to do my usual thing and look back over what I have loved this month. March has been a weirdly tough month for me so I can’t say that I’m particularly sad to say goodbye! I look ahead to April with great anticipation though.

Apologies for this post arriving slightly earlier than it might usually however I am aware I’ve been posting a lot of review-type posts lately and I want to start writing some more days out/adventure/inspirational posts so I’m just freeing up some time for that. (Keep your eyes peeled.)

Lush Cosmetics Kisskin Bubble Bar £4.29 from the Kitchen

I have always wanted to try the Lush Mumkin bar but have never managed to snag one. For the last few weeks I have been requesting their appearance in the Lush kitchen. Imagine my delight when they announced they would be releasing Mumkin’s super-rare cousin Kisskin in the kitchen. I put the date down in my diary and luckily snatched up four before they all sold out online. (In a matter of five minutes I believe!) I was super-excited to receive them in the post. Unfortunately three of my Kisskins were a little worse for wear with pieces falling off of them but one of them arrived in tact and that’s the beauty you see photographed here. Kisskin smells strongly of raspberries and the design is super-cute albeit fragile. This bubble bar produces really soft mounds of bubbles and a pale pink water that’s quite pleasant. The scent is really strong which was a plus for me so I’m happy to have some tucked away in my Lush stash.

The Ladykiller book by Martina Cole £9.99 from Waterstones

I recently wrote a blog post on my Top Ten Crime/Thriller Fiction Reads  and this featured on that list for good reason. If you want to know why I loved it so much, go read that post! Martina Cole has a real skill at developing her characters and creating believable yet horrifying storylines. It did take me quite awhile to get through this book but it has definitely been the best I’ve read this month and for that reason I recommend you check it out!

Lush Cosmetics Golden Egg Bath Bomb Melt £3.95

Of course in a post of March favourites I couldn’t miss out on Lush’s amazing Easter collection. I absolutely love everything and am so impressed with both the designs and the scents of this years collection. The Golden Egg still remains a firm favourite for me though and I will continue to stock up on this until it sells out. With a wonderful toffee scent and all the glitter a girl could ever want, the Golden Egg produces the most opulent bath. Make sure you grab yours before the season ends!

Lush Cosmetics Vanishing  Cream Facial Moisturiser £18.95 for 45g

Another Lush item on the list (sorry!) is Vanishing Cream facial moisturiser. I really didn’t want to make this list all about Lush but there’s no way I could leave this one off when it’s pretty much saved my skin from total meltdown. I purchased this after receiving a sample and falling in love (proof that the samples really do work.) My skin is super oily so for a long time I have forgone moisturising it. I realise that sounds pretty bad but even a smidge of moisturiser leaves my face shiny and wet. Vanishing Cream however, soaks in to my skin leaving it grease-free and lovely. It also seems to have a slight mattifying effect and has done numerous wonderful things for my skin. For a start it is already starting to improve small scars and weird discolouration on my face and weirdly cleared up a really bad breakout I was going through. I just love it and can no longer imagine a skin routine without it. I’m actually in the process of switching all my skin care products over to Lush now because they are really fantastic. Vanishing Cream is quite pricey but a tiny amount goes a long way so it’s actually surprisingly good value for money.

They Walk Among Us Podcast

If like me you’re a dedicated listener of crime podcasts, you will absolutely love They Walk Among Us which you can find here! I would say there are about five crime podcasts I listen to regularly whilst I work. In my professional career I am Copywriter and weirdly I find that listening to podcasts helps me to get through my workload (but music completely distracts me!) Sword & Scale is a staple for me, as are The Generation Why and Vanished. But between the releases of fresh episodes I become frustrated and hunt for new material to listen to. My boyfriend was the one who suggested They Walk Among Us (although he hadn’t listened to it.) I can’t get over how good it is! They Walk Among Us is a podcast dedicated to true UK crime and it covers some high-profile cases. It is so well produced and interesting; giving me so much more insight to the crimes I had heard about in the news but hadn’t given much of an afterthought to. I’ve already listened to everything several times over and I recommend this if you’re in to crime. But please, steer clear if you’re of a faint disposition!

Quails

ne1

Last but not least I’m loving our new quail chicks! We were devastated to lose our beloved Omelette at the end of last month and we were worried about how Fudge might find life as the only Japanese quail in the household. We made the decision to purchase two more Japanese quail to keep her company and bought them from a dedicated farm. This time we decided to get our quails at a younger age so that they would acclimatise better to life in a busy household; it was the best decision we ever made. At just two weeks old the quails were still coated in a fine layer of fluff and enjoyed snuggling up on our laps to sleep. Three weeks later and our quails are almost fully grown but still enjoy snuggling up with us in the evenings, opting to jump up on to the sofa or fall asleep in our laps during their time out of the cage. They are so friendly, lovely and full of character that I must admit I have fallen completely head over heels for them and cannot imagine a life without them.

These pictures were taken a couple of days after we got them – they are much bigger now!

Lush Mother Earth Bath Bomb Review

When I first spotted mother Earth in the Lush Kitchen I thought to myself: “Why on Earth is this bath bomb so expensive?!” Priced at £7.95 I couldn’t work out what was so special about it if I am being honest. It looks nice sure; with its’ blue and green swirls it looks just like a mini Earth. But I didn’t think it warranted the price tag. That was until I did some serious Googling.

Mini Lush Kitchen Haul

I was bitterly disappointed to miss the Lush boxing day sales this year as I had hoped to snatch up lots of lovely bargains. To cheer myself up I thought I’d pick up a few exclusive goodies from the Lush Kitchen instead. I purchased all online and have not used any of these before.

When the box was delivered I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed as I favour fruity and sweet smells and this box was emanating a heavy floral scent. Kind of silly of me as almost everything I picked up has floral elements to it. Anyway, I’m still excited to give everything a go and broaden my Lush horizons.

October Lust List – What I’ve Loved This Month

Orange leaves, shiny conkers, cold nights and Halloween festivities – the changing of season from Summer to Autumn has been gradual but fun and I’ve really enjoyed October.

With this in mind, I thought I’d try something a bit different and recap what I’ve loved this month!

The Lush Halloween Range

From Sparkly Pumpkins to melt in the bath ghosts, the Lush Halloween range has really impressed me this month and I’m loving it all! Old favourites have made a re-appearance whilst new pieces have pleasantly surprised. Bubble baths are particularly rewarding as the nights get colder, longer and darker. There’s nothing more satisfying than a soak in soft perfumed bubbles whilst it rains bitterly outside.

My favourite from this range was The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar £3.95

The Sonny Angel Halloween Series

I’m a sucker for all things Halloween and the new Sonny Angel range is no exception! I’m absolutely loving the adorably spooky designs and was lucky enough to open one of each – including the super-rare Robby!

Sonny Angels £7.50 per blind box. You can buy them at Didi Inspired!

Mustard Yellow Knits

Scouring the shop rails this month I have seen my favourite autumnal colours pop up once again. Flashes of rust orange, forest greens, burgundy and mustard yellow. With the weather getting colder, chunky knits are a must-have and I’ve picked up a couple of really lovely mustard yellow pieces from Primark as well as knitting up my own scarf in this dreamy and cosy colour.

This lovely cable knit cost just £10 from Primark. If you want one you’ll have to hurry – sizes for these seem to be quite limited.

Thriller Books

This month I’ve been reading The Book of You by Clare Kendall and Try Not To Breathe by Holly Seddon- both of which have had me gripped. I love a thriller and trying to work out the mysteries hidden between the pages of a good book. If you’re looking for something a little different, I can’t recommend these novels enough. Perfect for lazy weekend reading.

The Book of You £7.99 and Try Not To Breathe £7.99 both paperbacks from Waterstones.

Crime Podcasts

I’m a big fan of crime podcasts, and don’t know how I would get through hours of work without them to keep me company. My all time favourite is Sword and Scale (which you can listen to here) This is perfect listening if you have a morbid sense of curiosity and want a snug evening indoors with the heating turned up and the candles on.

I Love Crafty Autumn Kitties Range

I love picking up fun jewellery pieces to add a playful accent to my outfits and I am a big fan of the I Love Crafty X Pony People seasonal kitties collab. Last year I snagged a Halloween and Spring Kitty. This year I was lucky enough to win a fantastic voucher for Etsy in an instagram competition and there was no doubt I’d be spending it on the adorable Autumn kitties range! What a perfect way to celebrate the season in style. I picked up this cute kitty napping on a mushroom.

Christmas Lush Haul

Some people may have a problem with my using the ‘C’ word so soon in to October. We haven’t reached Halloween yet so it seems a little early to even be contemplating Christmas. But in the world of Lush (and retail in general) Christmas is pretty much already here. Soz Grinches!  Anyway, Lush released there Christmas goodies just a week after the Halloween stuff. Whilst this was very exciting for me, it did also leave a dent in my bank balance! I wasn’t able to get one of everything from this range but I did pick up a few pieces that I’m very happy with. (And I’m sure I’ll be back for the rest at some point.)

Before I launch in to what I got, I’d like to quickly apologise for the slightly dramatic lighting -it’s a really grey and rainy Sunday and I didn’t manage to catch the weak morning sunlight as I was busy knitting a winter scarf and catching up on Catfish.

The Magic of Christmas  Bubble Bar Wand £5.95

This is a new to me product and, whilst I haven’t actually tried it yet (I wanted to take photographs first) the smell is absolutely amazing and definitely my new favourite. It’s actually quite similar to Sparkly Pumpkin but with a punch cinnamon and almond scent. It smells beautiful – just like Christmas. Already I know I’m going to have to stock up on these!

1

Peeping Santa Bubble Bar £3.95

The next thing I got was the Peeping Santa Bubble bar. I’d seen this around previously but I’ve never tried it. I hadn’t smelt it before either and when I bought it online, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the scent but I did know it was super-cute and Christmassy. I’m happy to report that it’s quite nice. I find it very subtle and less ‘perfumey’ than the other goodies. It has organic cocoa and shea butter in so I’m sure it will leave my skin feeling soft. My peeping Santa has slightly strange eyes – they look more like moustaches to me!

2

The Christmas Penguin Bubble Bar £3.95

Yet another bubble bar in my order, I couldn’t resist the cute Christmas Penguin. This is a citrusy smelling bubble bar with Sicilian lemon and mandarin oils.  Not quite sure what that little yellow splodge is !

6

Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb £4.25

Also new to me is the Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb. This bomb smells absolutely AMAZING. It features lime and orange scents – but it smells like pineapple and very much edible. The sweet scent is really strong and I can’t wait to try it out in the bath. The pink side of the bomb feels different in texture – really waxy. The bomb contains fair trade cocoa butter so I’m sure it will leave the skin super soft.

3

Shoot For The Stars Bath Bomb £4.25

This is an absolutely beautiful bath bomb with a vibrant blue shade interspersed with glittering gold stars. It’s almost too beautiful to want to use. I say almost because the scent is so lovely. Again this is a new favourite for me. The scent is orange and bergamot but it smells more sweet than fruity. If you like sweet perfume type scents I think you will really appreciate this special bath bomb.

4

Luxury Lush Pud Bath Bomb £4.25

Last but not least I picked up the Luxury Lush Pud. I love the design of this one as it’s just so fun and playful! This bomb is very sweet smelling and contains tonka (although I’m not really sure what this is!) and lavender. You can’t really smell the lavender so much though – it’s more of a cake kind of smell. This would be a great bath bomb for the evening though, just before bed and when you want to relax.

5

So that’s what I picked up. My boyfriend also bought me a stash of Sparkly Pumpkins because I love them so much. But my Lush Lust List is as follows:

Snow Fairy Shower gel

Fairy Dust Dusting Powder

Candy Mountain Bubble Bar

Golden Wonder Bath Bomb

What is your favourite bath time treat from this range?

Mini Lush Haul

Yesterday was payday and I happened to find myself in Southampton travelling back from a holiday we’d spent in Dorset. With post holiday blues weighing on my mind some retail therapy was a must. Whilst I spent a majority of my hard-earned cash on presents for a friend, I did stop off at Lush to replenish my depleted pile of bath time treats. Here’s what I got:

Avobath bath bomb, £3.50

Like every Lushie I have my favourites. My go-to treats for when I need a pick me up. I am a big fan of the Avobath bath bomb. The main appeal for me is that it smells absolutely divine. I am a big fan of fruit/sweet smells and tend to steer clear of the more floral scents. Avobath smells very citrusy and refreshing, turns your bath water an appealing minty green colour and leaves your skin feeling very smooth. I find this to be a great morning treat as the citrus is good for waking me up and putting me in the right frame of mind to tackle a new day. As the name suggests one of the main ingredients in Avobath is avocado – is there anything this magical fruit isn’t good for?!

Avobath

The Comforter Bubble Bar, £4.95

I also purchased one of my favourite bubble bars. The comforter is amazing and very sweet smelling. To me it’s quite similar in scent to Snow Fairy with definite candy floss undertones. The main scent however is ‘blackberry’. The comforter will always be a favourite of mine because it smells amazing, produces lots of super-soft bubbles and turns your bath water a pretty shade of pink! What’s more is that you don’t need to use the bar all in one go which makes it great value for money. Depending on how luxuriously bubbly my baths are I can make this bar last up to four baths which is great. Three is a good average though for luxurious bubble goodness.

Melting Marshmallow Moment Bath Oil, £2.00

My next purchase was the Melting Marshmallow Moment bath oil. This is a new one for me and I haven’t seen it on the shop floor before either. I haven’t tried it yet but what I can say is that it looks and smells completely edible! This is also similar in scent to Snow Fairy (which happens to be my favourite scent of all time.) The colours remind me of rhubarb and custard sweets! The Lush bath oils usually leave your skin in a fantastically soft state, so I can’t wait to try this one.

Percup Massage Bar, £6.50

Another new one for me I decided to give the Percup massage bar a go after reading rave reviews online. One particular review suggested this massage bar was good for smoothing out cellulite and, being of the thick-thighed female variety I thought I’d give this a go to see if I could smooth out my legs a little. When I picked it up in store I wasn’t immediately converted. The bar has real coffee beans in it and it does smell quite like a strong cup of coffee! However, I gave it a go when I got home and when it melts in your hand the smell is much more subtle – and a lot nicer! The bar melts in to a luxurious oil that left my skin feeling nothing short of amazing! I’m not sure how well it will help with my lovely lady lumps but I will continue to use this because I love the silky smooth feeling it gives me. This is great for legs but I should imagine you could use it all over. This bar claims to boost circulation and hydrate your skin. It contains fair trade organic cocoa butter, fair trade shea butter and organic jojoba oil (plus some other lovely ingredients.)

Percup

Sea Salted Caramel Soap, £4.25/100g

Last but not least is the sea salted caramel soap which is another new one for me. Why did I pick this up? Quite simply the smell is good enough to eat! Lush describes the scent as: “somewhere between a hot pudding, dripping in caramel, and crunchy cinder toffee.” And boy does it smell good!  I am a big fan of Lush soaps as they last for a very long time and the scent really stays on your skin. I also find these ideal for when I have to shower in the morning and there’s no time for a lovely bath. I haven’t used this yet (have just inhaled it) but I’m looking forward to walking around and smelling like a pudding all day.
